This course surveys time-honored techniques used by lawyers, analysts, and argumentative writers to assert their viewpoints and to distinguish between objective and persuasive information. Participants practice writing in situations that call for responses consistent with these methods and receive professional feedback on their appraoch to specific writing tasks. 


Scope
  • Ask relevant questions to capture key information efficiently.
  • Assess information to determine valid and reliable conclusions.
  • Organize and draft content to increase clarity.
  • Apply a problem-solving approach to heighten the integrity of the message.
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of inductive and deductive arguments.
  • Cultivate skills to avoid deceptive wording.
